Topic
The subject of this First Author Apiary was the "Color".
Each artist has created the front using and interpreting the color with their artistic flair,
In addition, this theme is derived from the choice to celebrate the centenary of an important historical artistic movement born in 1919 the Bauhaus.
It was a school of architecture, art and design that operated in Germany from 1919 to 1933 and also represented the fundamental reference point for all innovation movements in the field of design and architecture related to rationalism and functionalism, part of the so-called modern movement. Its teachers, belonging to different nationalities, were leading figures of European culture and the educational experience of the school will have a profound influence on artistic and technical teaching to this day. The Bauhaus was a pivotal moment in the twentieth-century debate on the relationship between technology and culture.
100 Jahre Bauhaus
Exactly one hundred years have passed since Walter Gropius founded the Staatliches Bauhaus in 1919 in Weimar.
One of the first masters that Gropius associates with the project is the painter and theorist, Johannes Itten,
To commemorate this event and since the theme of the FIRST "Apiary d'Author" 2019/2020 is color, I wanted to give importance to this work: "Color sphere in 7 values of light and 12 tones, author: Johannes Itten".
Short story
Itten developed the famous Bauhaus preliminary course and was a major influence during the early years. He left the Bauhaus after disagreements and founded the Itten school in Berlin. Between 1904 and 1906, Johannes Itten attended a teaching course at Hofwil near Bern. He worked as an elementary school teacher from 1908 to 1909. In the same year, he enrolled at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Geneva and studied there until 1910. Until 1912, Itten completed another degree in natural sciences and mathematics at the University of Bern and graduated as a secondary school teacher. Over the next two years he studied at the Stuttgart Academy and became a member of Adolf Handel's university student studio. In 1916, a first solo exhibition dedicated to Itten's work was organized by Herwarth Walden at his Der Sturm gallery in Berlin. In the same year, Itten moved to Vienna and opened a private art school there. In October 1919, Itten was named as one of the first masters at the Staatliches Bauhaus in Weimar by Walter Gropius. Until 1922-1923, he was both director of the preliminary course he had developed independently for the introductory semester and master of the form of all seminars except ceramics, binding and printing workshops. Itten has made a significant contribution to the Bauhaus by promoting the cult of Mazdaznan, which embraces religions and philosophies. After internal differences with Walter Gropius, Itten left the Bauhaus in March 1923.
